Title Of Article :
Current developments in antenatal corticosteroid administration
Abstract :
General measures and tocolytic treatments are usually unsuccessful for preventing preterm births. Dexamethasone or betamethasone, when administered maternally prior to delivery, accelerate fetal lung maturation and decrease the incidence of respiratory distress syndrome. In the present review, latest developments on antenatal corticosteroid therapy have been discussed. Recent data indicate that antenatal corticosteroid treatment would be completed as a single or rescue course at least 14 days apart between 26 to 36 weeks gestation and by using betamethasone, but not dexamethasone.
