Title Of Article :
Relationship between anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody and IL-6 Levels and clinic activity in rheumatoid arthritis patients
Abstract :
Aim: Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody and IL-6 relationship with clinic activity in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients have been investigated. Patients and Methods: Clinically active 30 RA patients (M/F, 3/27) who fullfilled the criteria of Association of American College of Rheumatology (ACR) and 22 healthy controls (M/F, 2/20) and 29 Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) patients (M/F, 4/25) who fullfilled the criteria of European Spondyloarthropaties Working Group (ESSG) were enrolled to the study who applied to SDUTF Rheumatology clinic both as inpatient and outpatient. IL-6, ESR, CRP and modified DAS 28 activity index for RA patients and Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) for AS patients were used. Results: Anti-CCP antibody positivity was not significantly correlated with DAS 28 score in the basis of all RA patients (r = 0,172, p = 0,364). A quite significant relationship between DAS 28 score and CRP was observed (r = 0,525, p = 0.006), while there wasn t a significant association between IL-6 levels (r = 0.09, p = 0,629). In patients with RA there was a positive, moderate correlation between anti-CCP antibody titers and CRP (r = 0,399, p = 0.029) and between anti-CCP and ESR (r = 0,490, p = 0.006). But there wasn t a significant correlation between anti-CCP antibody titers and IL-6 levels (r = 0,146, p = 0,440). Conclusion: In patients with RA there wasn t a relationship between anti-CCP antibody titers and IL-6 levels with the clinical activation. However a positive correlation between anti-CCP antibody titers and IL-6 levels were observed. More extensive studies are needed to investigate the clinical importance of this correlation.
