Abstract :
Diet in patients with chronic renal failure is very important in terms of progression of the disease. Unlike fat and carbohydrates, proteins are not stored and turn into nitrogen-containing waste products. These nitrogenous waste products cause the appearance of uremic symptoms. In addition, they contribute to an increase in hyperkalemia, renal osteodystrophy and metabolic acidosis. Regulation of dietary content has great importance in terms of correction of electrolyte disorders which may happen in future and easily controlling of blood pressure. However, nutritional deficiency is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Chronic renal failure patients dietary compliance should be monitored closely before reaching the end-stage renal failure. Close monitoring of diet results in declining of progression rate of renal failure and controlling of complications which may occur in the future will be easier.
