Epileptik Afazi: Landau Kleffner Sendromu
Abstract :
Landau Kleffner syndrome or acquired epileptic aphasia is a rare condition. Six-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with complaint of speech disability and hearing. Her neurologic examination was normal except not to answer questions. Brainstem auditory evoked potential was normal. Electroencephalography of patient showed spike-wave activity from the left temporal area. Initially, speech, language skills and spike- wave activity improved with valproate treatment. After a period of time, recurrence of complaints and electrical status epilepticus during sleep in the electroencephalography occurred. Corticosteroid treatment was started. Her clinic and electroencephalographic abnormalities were improved with the corticosteroid. Because this case was a rare condition and initially gave a good response to valproate, then electrical status epilepticus during sleep developed we presented this case.
