Abstract :
Aim: In this study, the aim is to determine obestatin-like immunoreactive substances in the plants Opuntia ficus-indica, Asparagus officinalis, Anethum graveolens, Brassica oleracea capitata, Camellia sinensis, Zeo mays, Brassica oleracea acephala, Morus spp, Vitis vinifera, Lepidium sativum L, Crataegus sp. and Allium cepa which are effective on appetite and are counsumed intensely. Material and Methods: In this study, protein isolation was performed from the plants according to TCA/acetone and phenol extraction protocol. Obestatin-like immunoreactive substances were determined with sandwich ELISA. Results: In all studied plants exhibited obestatin immunureactivity but varying levels of obestatin-like substances (0,77±0,5 – 3,78±0,6 ng/mg protein). The obtained results demonstrated that protein extract of leaves of Brassica oleracea acephala showed higher obestatin immunoreactivity (3,78±0,6 ng/mg protein) than found in the other studied plants. Conclusion: The existence of obestatin and obestatin-like substances in both animal world and also plant world gives the idea that this greline hormon is universal. Plants contained different levels obestatin-like substances suggest that may will expression on weight control in animal and human.
