Computer Aided Design of Elliptical Spur Gears and Manufacturing on CNC Wire EDM
Abstract :
The mathematical equations of elliptical gears, significant members of non-circular gears, have been firstly done. Software has been developed in order to solve the equations successively within the cycle and for 2-D models of production pictures of elliptical gears with desired numbers of teeth and modules at AutoLISP. Through this programme, the elliptical gears, which are too difficult to produce by traditional methods and require specific manufacture lines equipped with special techniques, have been produced at 5 different modules by wire EDM. The eccentricity of pitch diameters, the most important parameter for workability of the gears have been controlled by a test unit developed design and manufactured. The eccentricity values show that the elliptical gears manufactured can be successively applied in many mechanical systems.
