Abstract :
Mechanical and chemical features of sheet metal materials such as yield strength, tensile strength, or microstructure are not alone sufficient to account for their formability. Therefore new techniques, by which the formability limits are determined, are needed to use the sheet metal materials effectively in production processes. In recent years, among the new studies in which the sheet metal material formability limits are determined, Forming Limit Diagram technique has been of concern. Forming Limit Diagram is a diagram where the behaviours of sheet metal materials -under the conditions of deep drawing and stretch formingare shown. With the Forming Limit Diagram, the behaviours of sheet metal materials which are subjected to two-dimensional tensile and compression tests can be analyzed. In this study, the theory, drawing, reading, and interpretation of Forming Limit Diagrams were analyzed and a Forming Limit Diagram was generated by examining step-by-step the forming procedures in the literature. The correct reading and interpretation of Forming Limit Diagrams will be a guide to a more efficient use of sheet metal materials.
