Abstract :
Durability is very important for sustainable buildings as well as the compressive strength. For this purpose, pozzolanic materials are used for cement and concrete technology. One of these materials is fly ash. In this study, the effect of the fly ash of Seyitömer thermal power plant to compressive strength, setting time and water demand of the cement (OPC 42.5 R) were investigated. For this purpose, fly ash was added as a replacement for Portland cement in amounts of 0, 10, 20 and 30 weight %. The effects of fly ash to compressive strength, setting time and water demand was determined by standard tests of cement. As a result, a linear increase was determined in setting time and water demand of the fly ash replaced cement than Portland cement mortar. Besides, 2, 7 and 28 days compressive strength had a decrease compared to the Portland cement. Despite this reduction, compressive strength of 10% and 20% of the fly ash replaced cement mortars was determined to be between the standard values.
