Investigation of the Belt Conveyor Speed Effect to the Surface Quality in Marble Polishing Process
Abstract :
In this study, the effect of belt conveyor speed on marble surface quality was investigated during the polishing process. For this purpose, three different samples which are known as Bursa Emprador (Limestone), Bucak Travertine, Muğla White (Marble), were tested by using automatic narrow polish machine with 2+4 heads. The polishing experiments were conducted in various belt conveyor speeds when the head pressure and rotation were stable. Then the surface brightness and roughness were measured to describe the surface quality in the some stage of the process.As a result of the obtained data it was seen that the surface roughness are rapidly decreasing in the rough polishing stage of the process and the surface brightness are rapidly increasing in the fine polishing stage of the process. Brightness and roughness are changing inversely proportional, and smoother and brighter surfaces are obtained by decreasing the abrasive heads rotation.
