Technological Features of the Döğer (Ihsaniye-Afyon) Tuffs as Natural Building Stones and Mevlevi (Turbe) Mosque Restoration
Abstract :
Tuffs are volcanic rocks with very high porosity ratio. This affects both physical and mechanical properties of these rocks. In this research, characteristics of Döger (Ihsaniye) tuffs, which were used for the restoration of Mevlevi (Turbe) Mosque were studied. Tuff samples are cut according to the standard sizes, then; petrographic (polarizing microscope), mineralogical (XRD and SEM), and chemical analysis (XRF) were employed for the characterization. Physio-mechanical properties of the samples were determined according to the TSEN standardization. The Döger tuffs have lower strength and endurance considering the other building stones. However, these tuffs were used in historical buildings for Seljuk and Ottoman architectures and these structures have withstood firmly until today.
