Abstract :
In this study, performance of the cutting parameters that used in hard turning process of AISI D2 cold work tool steel have been researched and the optimum machining conditions have been identified. Experiments have been made according to Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. The evaluation of the experimental results was based on the signal/noise (S/N) ratio. Control factors that given optimum surface roughness values were determined by using the Taguchi method. Three different cutting speeds (50, 100, 150 m/min), feed rates (0.08, 0.16, 0.24 mm/rev) and depth of cuts (0.25, 0.50, 0.75 mm) as control factors have been selected. The effect levels on the surface roughness of the control factors with analysis of variance (ANOVA) performed using the experimental results were determined. Finally, the confirmation tests were performed and showed that the optimization is successfully implemented. As a result Taguchi analysis, it was found the optimum results for surface roughness in cutting speed of 100 m/min, feed rate of 0.08 mm/rev and depth of cut 0.25 mm. The results of calculations and confirmation tests, the Ra values were found as 0.280 μm and 0.245 μm, respectively.
