Abstract :
The present study aims to analyze the effects of regular sight reading exercises, made on the piano with pieces created solemly for this aim, on the acquisiton of sight reading piano playing skills. The study, an experimental study based on pretest –post test, research and control group design, is conducted with 12 first graders in the Music department, six students in the experimental and six in the control group, of the Konya Çimento (Cement) Fine Arts and Sports High School. After the students in both groups were adminstered a pre test, sight reading exercises for playing the piano were conducted with the experimental group for 13 weeks with three intermittent recordings. At the end of the experimental study, the evaluation made with the pre-test, were conducted again with the post test. The analysis of the data using Mann Whitney U ve Wilcoxon tests revealed in the pre-test no significant results among the two groups; however, a statistically significant outcome in favour of the experimental group was prevalent in the result of the post test. Thus, it can be assumed that the experimental group conducting regular sight reading exercises for playing the piano, has shown an enhancement in the acquisition of playing the piano by sight reading skill.
