A Comparative Analysis of Primary Curriculum in Switzerland (Basel) and Turkey in Terms of Teacher Opinions: A Qualitative Research
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to identify differences and similarities between Primary Curriculum in Turkey and Switzerland as regard opinions of teachers in Switzerland. The study has been done with qualitative research methodology and case study research design was used. Sample was determined by purposeful sampling. Five teachers who accepted the interview were chosen among Turkish teachers having worked for at least 2 years in different parts of Switzerland. Data were collected through Teacher Interview Form consisting of open-ended questions. After analyzing the data, it was found that knowledge density is much more in Primary Curriculum of Turkey while Switzerland Primary Curriculum is more flexible and studentcentred; Being flexible the curriculum in Switzerland causes teachers associate content with real life and so it makes curriculum is more consistent; The effects of Switzerland financial power can be seen in getting and using educational technology and materials in schools.
