Abstract :
Theoretical works in this field were written by such scholars as al-Jurjani, al-Sakkaki, al-Qazvini, and al-Taftazani, whereas the applied works offered by interpreters like al-Zamakhshari, al-Baydavi, Abussuud, and al-Alusi. He argued that social development entails a true understanding of the purposes of the Qur’an. As the president of the Zaytuna University in Tunis, he formulated two theses as “maqasid” and “mubtakarat”. This paper discusses what Ibn Ashur means with the term “mubtakarat al-Qur’an,” the term that he employed at the first time in the field and how much he contributed to the literary study of the Qur’an with this theory. The primary source of our study is his Qur’anic commentary, al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir.
