Abstract
Linkage maps have been developed for many plant species. Genetic maps could be used to locate important genes on linkage groups and enable breeders to manipulate important genes and characters. Safflower has been cultivated for centuries as oilseed crop but there is no genetic map developed for safflower. In the present study, possible use of a recombinant inbred population (RIL) as a mapping population was investigated. The population was developed by crossing Dincer 5-118 and Remzibey-05 cultivars and advanced to F6 generation. Sixteen lines along with parents were used to screen 10 AFLP primer combinations to reveal polymorphisms. A total of 439 bands were produced and 20 of those were found to be polymorphic both between parents and among the individuals. Amount of polymorphisms produced by the primer combinations ranged between 0-4. Among the polymorphic bands, 9 showed skewed distribution from the expected ratio.
