Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine the effects of salinity levels (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 mM NaCl) on germination and seedling growth of four sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.Moench) cultivars (Rox, Nes, Leotti ve Early Sumac). In the research, germination percentage (%), germination index, shoot and root length (cm), shoot and root dry weight (mg/seedling) and salt tolerance index (%) were investigated. Responses of cultivars to salt stress indicated differences. The results showed that both germination characteristics and seedling growth characteristics were negatively affected with increasing salt levels. Both germination and seedling growth characteristics indicated that Early Sumac was the tolerant cultivar to be recommended for saline areas at germination and seedling growth stage.
