Title Of Article :
The Effects of Corn Silage and Sugar Beet Pulp on Fattening Performance, Blood Parameters and Carcass Characteristics of Bulls
Abstract :
This study was carried out to determine the effect of roughage source, corn silage, sugar beet pulp, on fattening performance, blood parameters and carcass characteristics of bulls. A total number of 28 Holstein bull at the age of 13 months and averaging 252, 5±6, 43 kg of body weight were allocated in two groups. Each experimental group was divided into three subgroup having 5, 5, and 4 bulls each. The results obtained in this experiment showed that sugar beet pulp improved daily gain numerically (1,48 vs. 1,37 kg/d, P 0,05). Hemoglobin, hematocrit, albumin values were higher for the bulls receiving corn silage than those receiving sugar beet pulp (P 0,05). Neutrophile level for the bulls was lower for the bulls fed with corn silage compared to those fed with sugar beet pulp (P 0,05). Liver weight was found significantly higher for bulls fed with sugar beet pulp than corn silage (P 0,05). In conclusion, both roughage sources can give satisfactory growth performance when they were used at the 40 % fattening diet as fed basis.
