UNIVERSITY - INDUSTRY COLLABORATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF ACADEMIC STAFF: THE CASE OF EGE HIGHER VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

The aim of this study is to define the level of cooperation between Higher Vocational Schools (HVS) and industry. In this context, a survey method is used and a questionnaire is developed and conducted via face to face meeting to all of the academicians of Ege HVS. Main findings prove that the cooperation is focused on students, but there is no evidence about the collaboration focused on developing new technologies with companies. We have found out that the contact between companies and HVS academicians is based on personal relationships. Last but not least, the findings reveal that academicians are not satisfied with level of cooperation with the industry. The research results revealed that different incentives and implementations should be developed to enhance the level of cooperation between HVS and industry. The possible recommendations are to increase the level of academic staffs’ income from the cooperation and improve the infrastructure of HVS which attract more companies to collaborate.
