The Availability of Advanced Durum Wheat Population in Yield and Quality Basis Selection
Abstract :
It is important to the development new varieties which has high yield and quality due to decrease durum wheat production and cultivation area in Turkey where has an important place at durum wheat production. In this study, six durum wheat as parents (3 landraces and 3 modern cultivars) and their 6 x 6 half-sib F_6 diallel cross progenies were used as materials. The experiment was arranged as completely randomized block design with three replications and conducted in Diyarbakır field conditions. The genotypes were tested for the availability in breeding studies by using grain yield, SPAD and quality parameters (protein content, wet gluten content and Zeleny sedimentation). The hybrid of 1x4 and 3x6 were found to have potential for new cultivar improvement via single plant selection at the end of grain yield, SPAD reading wet and gluten evaluations.
