Abstract :
Akkuyu Formation which occurs at Antalya region in Middle Taurus has carbonate lithology and 1.92 wt% average of Corg. The values of Corg are 6.4 times more elevated than the source rock average value accepted for carbonates (0.3 wt%). 9 major elements and 38 traces elements are investigated on the carbonate samples of Akkuyu Formation which are rich in organic matter. Determined major and trace elements are compared with average of carbonates and shales, also with Peru Margin sediments, Namibian Margin (Africa) sediments, Cenomanian/Turonian Demerara Rise sediments, Cenomanian/Turonian Gubbio sediments, and Mediterranean and Black Sea sapropels which is accumulated under anoxic conditions. The considerable element enrichment in Akkuyu Formation are in Rb, U, Ba, Cu, Ni, Cr, As, V, Zn, Sb, Co, Mo, Cd. Element intervals of major elements, Na, Ti, K, P, Si, Fe and Mg, of Akkuyu Formation which change between 0.003 and 1.70, are lower than that of upwelling sediments, sapropels, Cenomanian/Turonian (C/T) black shale samples.
