Title Of Article :
DEVELOPMENT OF A SIMULATION-BASED SHIFT PLANNING MODULE
Abstract :
The shift planning which is developed by using workforce capacity and competence is one of the main factors affecting system productivity. Companies take some serious actions as a result of global financial crisis such as shorter working hours than ever before, recession in production and laying-off workers. In this study, it has been aimed to develop a shift planning module to decide useful strategies and applications about working hours in different shifts and to examine results of these measures during financial crisis by Faborg-Sim simulation software. In this scope, a shift planning module has been developed and integrated to Faborg-Sim software. The module has been tested in a heating manufacturing system where system data have been gathered by using work study applications. Four alternative shift planning scenarios for possible crisis have been investigated and modelled with company data by simulating on Faborg-Sim. The workstation and personnel capacity utilization rates, lead times, work-in-process levels and delivery rates are evaluated and the results are discussed for the best efficiency shift plans.
