THE EURO AREA FISCAL PROBLEMS AND SEARCHES FOR FISCAL POLICY HARMONIZATION

The development in the Euro Area fiscal field is undoubtedly an important issue in terms of the Turkish economic literature, because of Turkey’s integration process into the European Union. The purpose of the study is to investigate the developments in the Euro Area fiscal field during the period 1999-2010 and to introduce the problems which occured in the course of the implementation of the Maastricht fiscal convergence criteria. The study also analyzes the measures which have been taken to struggle with the debt crisis since 2009. Besides, this study examinesthe Euro Area meetings which have been organized to search for a new policy to stabilize the fiscal problems in the long-run and investigates the practice of the automatic stabilizers, especially the unemployment insurance and the corporate tax.
