Abstract :

Some reasons such as local / regional development necessity experienced in Turkey, social responsibilities of the universities and “unreal mission description” by newly established universi- ties have placed newly established universities with the problem of defining the term ”mission” again. How can / should universities offer their contemporary services (training and education, scientific research- publication and social services) with a missiondescription and structuring by giving priority to local development? The study that aims to find an answer to this question has been conducted within the logical entirety of “ theory – analysis – synthesis (conception – observa-tion – suggestion), with document content analysis, within the qualitative research methods. The observations obtained have been discussed from the applications of three newly founded universi-ties chosen within this view; The following hypothesis conclusion has been reached within the sample model developed by logical reasoning: In order to increase their efficiency in local / regio-nal development, the newly founded universities should follow a new mission based on sharing with internal and external stakeholders and be institutionally structured based on strategic plans.
