THE EFFECT OF CREATIVE DRAMA METHOD ON ACHIEVEMENT IN SCIENCE TEACHING
Abstract :
In this study, the effect of creative drama method on achievement of the 5th grade elementary schoolstudents in teaching “heat and its transfer in matter ” unit was investigated. For this purpose, 36 studentswere selected for the experimental group, and 36 students were selected for the control group by randomsampling method. Multiple choose 25 questions achievement test was used for a pre-test before startingthe program. Creative drama method was applied to the experimental group, and traditional learningmethod was applied to the control group. The program lasted for four weeks, and 3 hours each week andat the end of the program 25 questions achievement test was used for a post-test. The results wereanalyzed x , sd and t Test. Besides, at the end of each course the students were asked to write down theircomments on the course. Those comments were examined by three researchers individually. At theend of the program it has been observed that both the control and the experimental groups’ level ofknowledge related to “heat and its transfer in matter ” unit increased. However, there is a meaningfuldifference between the post-test points in favor of the experimental group [t(70)=6.054, p .05]. Theresults of the research has shown that teaching “heat and its transfer in matter ” unit of the 5 th gradeelementary school by using creative drama method is more effective in achievement of the students thantraditional learning method.
