Personal and Institutional Factors Affecting School Administrators’ Career Advancement Decisions
Abstract :
Main purpose of school is to educate students in accordance with the determined goals. Researches reveal that school administrators’ certain behaviors affect instructional quality directly or indirectly. Therefore, they should be in a consistent effort to improve themselves, follow innovations and adapt them into their administrative practices. However, it is assumed that some institutional and personal factors affect their career advancement decisions negatively. This qualitative study aims to determine factors affecting their career advancement. In this regard, 30 school administrators were interviewed. Results reveal that while economic, ideological and political factors affect their decisions, educational, psychological and sociological factors do not.
