The Attitudes of Social Studies Teacher Candidates’ Towards Teaching Profession
Abstract :
The aim of the study is to determine attitudes towards the teaching profession of social studies teachers in terms of different variables (gender, reason for choosing the teaching profession, father is education status, maternal education status). Research data have been obtained by 230 social studies teacher candidates (SSTC) who study in Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Social Studies Education Department in the academic year of 2012-2013. As data collection tools Personal Information Form developed by the researchers and Teaching Profession Attitude Scale developed by Üstüner (2006) in research has been used with descriptive survey method. Research data have been analyzed by using necessary statistical techniques with IBM SPSS 20.0 program. In the result of research, it meaningful differences in terms of gender, reason for choosing the teaching profession, father education status, but have been found meaningful difference in terms of maternal education status of SSTC’ attitudes towards the teaching profession haven’t been found. Another important finding in the study is the level of positive and “agree” of SSTC’ attitudes towards the teaching profession.
