Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to investigate the Police Vocational School of Higher Education students’ attitudes towards English learning. Class levels, type of high schools graduated, purpose of English learning, methods of English learning, effects of first English teachers and computer skill levels were examined. The research was conducted at Kırıkkale Police Vocational School of Higher Education in 2012-2013 academic year. A questionnaire and an attitude scale were used to collect required data. The data were analyzed via SPSS 17 statistical package programme. Frequency, percentage, standard variation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Scheffe, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests were used to analyze data. The findings indicated significant relations between the students’ attitudes and class levels, type of the high schools graduated, computer skill levels. The research also revealed that the students’ first English teachers have positive effect on their attitudes regarding English learning.
