Abstract :
History is one of the basic disciplines in social studies curriculum. Density of history subjects has been known in the social studies curriculum and attributed a special importance to the science of history. The purpose of this research is to examine social studies teachers’ views about the subjects of history in the 6. and 7. grades social studies curriculum. In this study, interview technique as qualitative research method was utilized as a means of data collection. For this purpose, interviews were held with 14 teachers in the study group. Although participants generally made positive evaluations about the subjects of history in the 6. grade social studies curriculum, it was determined that they expressed negative opinions about the 7. grade social studies curriculum. Also it was determined that density of the subjects of history, the conflict between types of questions in the central exams with contents of the curriculum, lack of chronological ordering due to lack of connection between events, lack of interdisciplinary approach, political history took place much more than subjects of social history such situations often were emphasized by teachers as mainly problems.
