Abstract :
The purpose of this research was to inquire into the attitudes and field language competence of pre-service elementary mathematics teachers towards linear algebra course. The research was conducted with pre-service elementary mathematics teachers who were at 2, 3 and 4th grade levels at three public universities. Competence Test of Linear Algebra Field Language and Scale of Attitudes towards Linear Algebra were used as data collection tools in the study which was survey model. t-test, one way analysis of variance and correlation analysis were used for the data analysis. The results indicated that pre-service teachers attitudes and language competence for linear algebra course did not have statistically significant difference according to gender, teaching method (regular education or evening education) and participants working condition variables, but it had statistically significant difference according to grade level and age variables. The results also indicated a low level, significant and positively correlation between field language competence and attitude towards course of pre-service teachers. Linear algebra field language competences of pre-service teachers were rather low and their attitudes towards linear algebra course were undecided.
