THE ARCHAIC ELEMENT IN “YUSUF AND ZELIHA” OF ŞEYYAD HAMZA
Abstract :
Yusuf u Zeliha is one of the important works of Old Anatolian Turkish. This work of Şeyyad Hamza, who is known to have lived from in the last quarter of the 13th century to middle of the 14th century, is also important in terms of language characteristics as well as literary characteristics. The work of all the features of Old Anatolian Turkish, as well as the multitude of word of mouth in terms of features and archaic periods in the works is the most remarkable and most characteristic. Also, some words in work or some of the stereotypes of the work is the only example usage (Hapax of legoomeno). This work, although the work is written in the style of the mesnevi has often “vir salavāt eydeyim”, so the poet s work is just like the minstrel shows that a community read. In the present study, both in terms of literary and linguistic features that have an important place in Turkish literature archaic words will be examined. In our study, the development of identified vocabulary in the old Turkish and history dialects are given. The archaic words used in the old Turkish, historical dialects and the early days of Western Turkish is not used today in Turkey Turkish; but, it has been identified that some archaic words still used in Anatolian dialect. These words determined in compiling dictionaries are also shown in this study.
