Abstract :
The aim of this study is to contribute to education by investigating how effective schools are in terms of leadership, effective teaching, professional development, school-environment relationships and organizational commitment. 385 teachers working at the state schools in the central towns of Bursa were asked for their views. It was used Ross and Gray (2006)’s scale consisting of the dimensions of leadership, effective teaching, professional development, school-environment relationships and organizational commitment. It was found that the teachers agreed with the views about the leadership, effective teaching, organizational commitment and professional development dimensions of effective schools while they partially agreed with the school-environment relationships dimension. Another finding is that the teacher views on the principals’ leadership behavior changed according to the variables of age, length of service, educational level and organizational power.
