Title Of Article :
High School Students’ Processes of Constructing and Reinforcing Piecewise Function Knowledge
Abstract :
The expectation that examination of cognitive processes offers serious opportunities in increasing quality of instruction drew the attention to RBC + C (recognizing, building with, constructing + consoliolation) model, which is about explanation of abstraction. Departing from this point, in this study, high school students’ processes of constructing and reinforcing piecewise function knowledge were examined in an appropriate learning environment. Application was carried out with two volunteer high school students as a group work. Five problems enabling the students to use their experiences and prior knowledge were designed and respectively used in the instruction. As a result, it was observed that the students benefited from their prior knowledge in constructing new knowledge and they could costruct and reinforce piecewise function knowledge correctly at a certain level. Moreover, the study revealed the strong contribution of problem based instruction to construction of knowledge.
