Abstract :
In this study scales that aim to find out the level of relating the knowledge given in science curriculum with everyday life and that is co-equal, generalizable and relevant to the aim of the study have been developed. For this aim, two scales, “Connecting Biology Knowledge with Everyday Life Scale I” based on students’ knowledge of basic structure of the environment and living things and “Connecting Biology Knowledge with Everyday Life Scale II” based on the knowledge of systems constructing the human body have been developed. The subjects of this study who were graduated from the elementary schools in Bursa, Osmangazi District, were 6th grade students, 719 of whom participated in the pilot study and 357 of whom participated in the study after the scale inventory was prepared. According to the results of item analysis, it was found out that the mean of discrimination index was 0,43 and the item difficulty index was 0,60 for “Connecting Biology Knowledge with Everyday Life Scale I” and the mean of discrimination index was 0,43 and the item difficulty index was 0,65 for “Connecting Biology Knowledge with Everyday Life Scale II”. Reliability analysis of the scales revealed a Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0,80 for scale I and 0,82 for scale II.
