Abstract :
In this study, the Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) Department of prospective teachers selected topics on biology. We evaluated if project-based learning approach in teaching biology made an effect on the candidates’ academic achievement, project creation process, the products of the project, and science process skills. In this research survey and pre-trial models was used incorporation, and the data was collected by using four different measuring tools: Candidate Personal Information Form, the Biology Achievement Test, the Survey on Project Proposal, and Project Presentation Observation Scale. We used kolmogorov-smirnov test, one-way ANOVA, t-test -for dependent groups- and tukey test to analyze the data collected. The arithmetic mean ( ), standard deviation (SD), frequency (f), percentage (%) values were calculated. As a result, Project based learning approach in teaching biology made an effect on the prospective teachers’ academic achievement. And also, our results indicated that the group which have a high level of knowledge of biology did not adopt the project-based learning approach enough, while mid-level knowledge of biology groups to adopt this approach more efficiently.
