A Research Related To Primary School Students’ Main Concepts about Music Education and Their Level of Cultural Knowledge
Abstract :
Children in primary school are naturally at the stage of playing games. Therefore, music education lessons are considered to be a very important area as it provides the opportunity for children at this stage to be creative and productive. It allows them to identify the environment they live in, to be aware of being worthwhile and to participate. This study is a descriptive research directed towards specifying primary school students’ main concepts about music education and their level of cultural knowledge. The system of the research is formed by students from a primary school in a district of Bursa and which has a high-middle socio-economic level, and the example of it is formed by 120 primary school students in grade 4 who attended school on the day when music teachers came for the lessons and put the study into practice. According to the findings, it is concluded that students have acquired the main concepts, knowledge and cultural gaining about music education taking place in the 2006 music education teaching program. However, it is further concluded that the application of the lesson was hardly carried out due to having only one hour of the lesson in a week, and that music lessons have turned into theoretical lessons for children who are at the stage of playing games.
