Title Of Article :
Counseling in Two Middle East Country: Turkey and Iran
Abstract :
The purpose of this article was to briefly compare the counseling profession in the neighboring countries of Iran and Turkey. This comparison included the history of counseling, counselor education programs as well as the development of counseling specialty areas, work settings for counselors and the likely future of the profession in both countries. In both Turkey and Iran, counseling is a profession that remains closely associated with education with school counseling training programs available at the undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels. Unlike Turkey, Iran has developed and implemented some specialty training programs in the areas of school, career, family, and rehabilitation counseling. The Iranian Counseling Association and the Iranian Psychology Association have a history of collaborative work. In Turkey, counselor educators have increased opportunities for international study, conference participation, and appear to publish more frequently in international journals. Turkey regularly hosts counseling conferences with international key note speakers.
