Paraphrasing From a Discursive Perspective (Cependant / Pourtant / Toutefois)
Abstract :
In this study, we first explained the difference between the ‘meaning’ and the ‘significance’. Then the features of paraphrasing process was studied in a discursive point of view and we discussed the criteria according to which the semantic equivalence between two statements is determined. Finally, with a mini-corpus of samples taken from magazines we tried to show, by using the technic substitution process, that the markers cependant , pourtant and toutefois considered traditionally as synonymous, are not, according to the discursive approach .
