Developing a Scale for Student Attitudes towards Participating in Classroom Activities in Turkish Literature Course
Abstract :
This study aims to introduce a scale developed to find out what attitudes secondary school students maintain towards participating in classroom activities in courses of Turkish Literature. Items of the scale were specified by the researcher through the data from an essay on students’ attitude towards participating in this course as well as reviewing the relevant literature and getting expert opinions. The 49-item draft scale was applied to 485 students studying in eight secondary schools in Kırşehir. SPSS 17.0 and Lisrel 8.80 were used in data analysis and the draft scale was reduced to 22 items after the analyses. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicate that the scale has a 5-factor structure. The scale’s Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of reliabiliy is 0,81.
