Abstract :

In this research, it was aimed to describe not only the mental health of the patients who have cancer diagnosed in T.R.N.C but also the quality of personal assistance and support to them. The research belongs to the patient cases who have been diagnosed with cancer in T.R.N.C. In the research, sampling of easily accessible case which is the method of purposeful sampling in creating the study group, was taken into consideration. The participants of this study group are the patients who diagnosed with cancer. The data of this qualitative study was collected by using an interview form consisting of semi-structured and open-ended questions. The interview form which was developed as a means of data collection in the research, has been finalized by using experts’ opinions. At the end of the research, some participants who learned that they had cancer were affected in a negative way but some others were not affected mentally. It was found out that, the families and the friends of cancer-diagnosed patients have a supportive attitudes against them, some participants were psychologically depressed during the treatment process and some got compliance to treatment. It was seen that some patients used the individual support mechanism to cope with the problems they have during the treatment process, while the others used the psycho-social support mechanism.
