Investigation of Endometrial Pathologies in Patients with Cervical Polyp
Abstract :
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate of possible endometrial pathologies in patients with cervical polyp. Material and Methods: We retrospectively analysed the data of 91 patients who were treated due to cervical polyp between May 2005 and December 2008 in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Elazığ Education and Research Hospital. Patients were divided into two groups as Group I: Premenopausal, Group II: Postmenopausal. The patients’ symptoms, the size of polyp and histopathologic diagnosis of the polyp were compared. Results: The mean age of patients was 45.9±10.3 years. The mean polyp size was 1.99±0.75 cm. There was no primary malignancy or recurrence rate on the cervical polyps. There were no significant differences in terms of diameter, symptoms, rate of recurrence, and histopathologic findings between the two groups (p 0.05). Endometrial pathologies were detected in 11.9% of patients with symptomatic cervical polyps. Conclusion: Cervical polyps are benign lesions. It must be remembered that endometrial pathologies can be found in patients with cervical polyps. Endometrium should be examined in patients with cervical polyp with at least using an ultrasound and endometrial sampling must be done in suspected patients.
