Abstract :
Objective: To evaluate the patients who were operated due to Pilomatricoma, which is encountered in General Surgery polyclinics and very important to show due to nature of malignant transformation. Material and Methods: Thirteen patients who were operated due to pilomatricoma in Harput State Hospital between September 2008 and March 2012, were investigated according to their age, gender, localization and characteristics of the lesions. Results: 13 patients admitted with pilomatricoma mass as a result of histopathological examination evaluated retrospectively. The mean age of the 13 patients was 37.53 and the female / male ratio was 6/7, respectively. The lesions were located in upper extremities in 7 patients (50%), located in head and neck region in 6 (42.8%) patients, and located on the body in 1 (7.2%) patient. Lesions were single, elastic or rigid subcutaneous nodules except one. One was cystic lesion. Diameters of the tumors ranged from 0.3-5 cm. Conclusion: Pilomatricoma is a common tumor which has various atypical forms and can be mixed to other skin and subcutaneous tumors due to lack of a patognomonic symptom. For this reason, surgeons are recommended to keep in mind the differential diagnosis of pilomatricoma while performing excisional biopsies.
