Title Of Article :
Investigation of Fosfomycin Susceptibility of Escherichia Coli and Klebsiella Strains Isolated from Various Clinical Sample
Abstract :
Objective: Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Klebsiella spp are the most important causes of nosocomial infections with high mortality rates due to their extended-Spectrum Beta-lactamase (ESBL) content. We aimed to investigate the susceptibility of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella bacteria towards fosfomycin. Materials and Methods: The diagnosis of microorganisms was made by conventional methods and antibiotic susceptibility was investigated by performing the disc diffusion method on Mueller Hinton Agar according to Clinical and Labaratory Standards Institute (CLSI) criteria. Results: A total of 264 sample (189 urine, 47 wound, 28 sputum) which were sent us from various clinics were included to the study. Fosfomycine resistance was determined in only 4 of all strains, these strains were 2 E. coli, 1 Klebsiella pneumoniaae and 1 Klebsiella oxytoca. Conclusison: As a conclusion, this study suggests that fosfomycin can be safely used by infections at locations other than in the urinary tract due to the low resistance rate.
