Abstract :
Objective:In this study we aimed to investigate the relationship of the platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) which is a marker associated with systemic inflammation and the ranson criteria which indicates these verity of acute pancreatitis on admission. Materials and Methods: Data according to patients diagnosed as biliary and non- biliary acute pancreatitis at the emergency department in the last five years have been reviewed. A total of 418 cases (301 biliary, 117 non- biliary) were included to the study. Hemogram and biochemical parameters, ages, sex, and length of stay were recorded at the time of initial application. Patients were classified 2 groups depending on RansonCriteria (Biliarypancreatitis: age 70 years, white blood cell (WBC) 18000 /mm3, glucose 220 mg/dL, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) 400 U/L, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) 250 U/L non-biliarypancreatitis: age 55 years, WBC 16000 /mm^3, glucose 200 mg/dL, LDH 350 U/L, AST 250 U/L) whether score 3 or score≥ 3. Results: There were significant correlation between platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and AST, LDH and WBC (respectively; r=0.17 P 0.001; r=0.18 P 0.001; r=0.10 P=0.01). We found that the uric acid, albumin, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio and PLR were independent predictors of acute pancreatitis severity as result of the linear regression analysis. Conclusion:PLR which features systemic inflammation may be used as a simple and reliable indicator to determine acute pancreatitis severity.
