Effects of Alfalfa (Fresh, Ensiled and Dried) on Characteristics of Wool Quality in Akkaraman Lambs
Abstract :
The effects of alfalfa (fresh, ensiled and dried) on characteristics of wool quality in Akkaraman lambs were investigated in the study. For this purpose, a total number of 40 Akkaraman lambs at the age of 4 months and averaging 21 kg of body weight were used. All diets were prepared as isonitrogenous and isoenergetic. The forage used in the rations formed the experimental groups. Among which the group fed with wheat straw as roughage was Group-1 fed with fresh alfalfa as roughage was Group- 2, ensiled alfalfa was Group-3 and dried alfalfa was Group-4. In the study, statistically important differences were determined between groups for the parameter of wool production (P 0.05), but no differences were found for the other parameters (P 0.05). In conclusion, it was founded that the addition of different forms of alfalfa to the rations did not effect the characteristics of wool quality.
