Abstract :
This study was carried out to investigate the the effects of various photoperiods on development of bulbus oculi in chicks. The study population was consisted of 144 broiler (ROS 308) chicks. As soon as they hatched, the sex of chicks were determined. The chicks were divided into two groups: male and female. Then the chicks were assigned into two photoperiod groups. In this study, a total of 288 eyeballs were examined. Eyeballs were fixed in buffered 10% formalin for 24 hours and then diameters and weights of bulbus oculi were measured. It was determined that weights of eyeballs increased by age and the eyes of the male chicks were heavier than the eyes of the female chicks. No significant effect (P 0.05) of photoperiods were observed on weights and diameters of bulbus oculi in chick groups.
