Title Of Article :
Investigation of Efficiency of Sulphadimidine Sodium in Treatment of Cats with Intestinal Coccidiosis
Abstract :
In this study, treatment of three cats with intestinal coccidiosis using sulphadimidine sodiumin was presented. The cats were brought to Firat University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Small Animal Clinic for clinical examination between 2013 and 2014. History revealed that there were inappetence, vomiting and bloody diarrhea in one cat while there was only diarrhea in the others. In addition, no treatment was applied to the cats. Following the clinical examinations, intense amounts of isospora oocysts were detected in the examinations of feces samples with flotation technique. And then, feces samples were sporulated with %2.5 potassium dichromate (K2CrO7) in order to make identification of species. In microscobic examination, Isospora felis and Isospora rivolta oocysts were detected. Based on the history and the results of physical and fecal examination, intestinal coccidiosis was diagnosed and a therapy was started with sulphadimidine sodium. This study concluded that sulphadimidine sodium was effective in treatment of intestinal coccidiosis diagnosed in the three cats.
