Abstract :
The aim of the present study was to investigate the macroscopic structure of the oropharyngeal cavity of the sparrowhawks. Two sparrowhawks were used as materials. The tongue was characterized by an elongated, fairly rectangular in shape but the tongue was not extended to fill the limit of the lower bill. Three parts were distinguished in the dorsal surface of the tongue: the apex, the body, and the root. A distinct median groove was observed on the apex and body of the tongue. The tongue was connected with frenulum lingua in the ventral mouth. A single alae linguae with large conical papilae was located between of the body and root of the tongue. The alae linguae was “V” letter shape and which was pointed toward the posterior part of the lingua. The glottis was observed at the caudal part of lingua of sparrowhawk. The pharyngeal conical papillae were behind the glottic fissure and pointed backward. The choanal fissure was observed on the roof of the oropharyngal cavity. The choanal fissure was characterized by a narrow rostral part and an enlarged caudal part. The infundibuler fissure was located behind the choanal fissure.
