Deep Cervical Abscess Caused by Eosephageal Metallic Foreign Body and its Treatment in a Cattle
Abstract :
In this case report, deep cervical abscess due to oesephagal metallic foreign body and its treatment were reported in a 3-years-old Simmental cow exhibiting swelling in cervical area, anorexia, cachexia and regurgitation. Radiographic examination indicated that there was a metallic foreign body together with translucent abscess formation. In the endoscopic examination, it was observed that normal appearance of oesophagus with partial luminal structure caused by abscess pressure. Skin incision and punction were performed on the swelling of left neck region, and content of the abscess was discharged with drain application among the muscles, and then the metallic foreign body was removed. Gauze drains were changed 3 times at weekly intervals. Also, the drains were shortened by cutting 4-5 cm each day. At the end of 8 weeks, the lesion completely healed. This case report emphasizes once again the importance of using diagnostic methods instead of symptomatic treatment for successful treatment.
