Abstract :
The aim of the study is to reveal the anatomical and histological features of liver in quails. For this purpose, 10 (5 male, 5 female) adult quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) at 4-6 months of age were used. The liver consisted of two lobes, the lobus dexter hepatis and the lobus sinister hepatis. Lobus dexter hepatis was observed as one part, while lobus sinister hepatis was divided into two parts, pars lateralis and pars medialis with a deep notch. On the facies visceralis, there were impressions of the heart (impressio cardiaca), spleen (impressio lienalis), proventriculus gastris (impressio proventricularis), ventriculus gastris (impressio ventricularis) and the beginning part of the duodenum (impressio duodenalis). The gall bladder in the form of a spindle exceeded the margo caudalis. The liver was not divided with septum interlobaris and into the lobes. The liver triple (trias hepatica), located at the corners of classical hepatic lobes, was in a dispersed state with intersititium being much less common, including ductus bilifera, arteria hepatica, and vena interlobularis. As a result, in this study anatomical and histological features of quail liver were examined and similarities and differences with other poultry species were revealed.
