Abstract :
One of the most important purposes of environmental education is to build environmental awareness and transform environmental awareness to behavior. In particular, it is important to integrate environmental behaviors in teacher education programme. For this reason, the teachers act as role models for their students in the schools and their attitudes and behaviours towards the environment can be learnt through observation by the students. If the teachers display effective and positive behaviours towards the subjects regarding environment, this condition will also be begun to be done after a while by the students. The purpose of this study was investigated in-service teachers who work in Turkey and pre-service science teachers‟ in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University behaviors toward environment and their behaviors according to demographic variables. In this study descriptive survey model was used. As data collection tool, “Environmental Behavior Scale which was developed by Kışoğlu (2009) was used. The Cronbach s alpha of the scale was calculated a=0.79. After data collection for the purpose of the study, pre-service teachers‟ and in-service teachers‟ behaviors toward was compared and in light of results obtained from this study, some implications for education and further studies and teacher training programs are made.
